How did I get involved with cars?

People wonder how I got so interested in cars.  The answer would be--my dad.  I can always remember him working on the '55 Chevy, little by little, every year of my life.  Guess what?  It still isn't finished.  My dad has owned the car since the early '70s and it really hasn't changed much since then.  It still has a tube axle up front, a tilt front end, and a 4 speed.  He did change the body over to a 2 door post sometime in the mid '70s.  We added a hood scoop and put front disc brakes on it.

The other cool car that he has is a '36 Ford 2 door slant back he has owned since he was a teenager.  We still have the car and it has been sitting in a nice barn for over 20 years, minus engine and tranny. This car will hopefully be put back similar to what it was in the '60s with the '39 flathead that was in it then.

Other cars I own.

I own a Rambler American station wagon that I would like to make into a pro streeter with a blown big block.

I also own a '94 Z-28 with a 6-speed.  I wanted this car to look stock on the outside yet sound and run like a hot rod when fired.  This is the way a Camaro should have been built.    I got this idea from Yenko Camaros.  I have pulled the engine and installed a GM Performance Parts LT4 hot cam kit, long tube headers with true dual 3" exhaust, electric water pump, and a reprogrammed PCM.  I put my own tasteful touch underneath the Z-28  which says "Leigh Edition".  This car is LOUD and sounds great with all the mods.  I take it to the strip occasionally and it runs 13.20s@107 on Good Year Eagle street tires.  I really don't want to put slicks on b/c I know I will be replacing the rear end if I do.  This car usually stays in the garage.  But it sure is fun to drive when I get it out on a nice, sunny day.  My daily driver is a 2000 Grand Am that I picked up for a steal thanks to a blown engine that the owner did not want to fix.

Other Hobbies

As if my automotive interests weren't time--consuming enough, I also enjoy building and flying r/c airplanes.  I rarely get to fly, but occasionally make it out to the Lake Jacomo flying field.  My dirt bike is also fun to play around on.  It is a YZ 250.  I also enjoy hanging out with my friends on weekends when I am not at the track.  I sure they all hate me in the summer when I rarely can go anywhere with them.  Whether out on the track, riding dirt bikes, or out on the flying field--crashing is not pretty!
