My name is Adam Leigh and I am going to tell you a little about my past, present, and what I hope will be my future. I am 29 yrs old and currently reside in Kansas City metro area. I have always been interested in cars, thanks to my dad and his totally nostalgic '55 Chevy. I have always loved that car and maybe some day it will be mine. I can remember the first time I saw a drag race and from that point on I was hooked! Cars, in general, have always appealed to me. I have always known that I wanted to go into the automotive industry as a Technician. I started working at a small service station in Lee's Summit, MO my senior year in high school just to get my feet wet. Once they got wet, I just kept getting in deeper.
After high school I attended Longview, a local Community College which appeared to have a nice auto tech dept--did it ever! They had all the latest and greatest equipment, dozens of brand new donated cars from all manufacturers, and some of the greatest teachers that a school could have. I majored in Automotive Technology. When I had taken all the auto and required classes at Longview, I transferred to Central Missouri State University, which had an auto dept that was seriously lacking. I took my senior year at CMSU and graduated with a BS in Automotive Power Technology. I also have an advanced level ASE Master Auto Technician certification. You can see that I really like cars.
I have been at a couple of different shops and have decided to stick with General Motors Dealerships. I really enjoy working on GM cars and trucks and have really taken a liking to working heavy line (rebuilding engines and doing jobs that take a day or days to complete.) I have been working on cars for 10 years and 8 of those have been with GM.
As for my future, I plan to work at the dealership until my drag racing career takes off. Someday I want to be in a Top Fuel funny car. Until then, I will continue to race altereds, and hopefully they will keep getting faster. I would really like to build a Top Alcohol funny car next or maybe a AA fuel altered, but I will probably invest in a house. I have already spent enough money on this crazy hobby to buy one.
